The Egyptian Society for Phoniatrics and Logopedics was established once there was a sufficient number of specialists to justify its legal existence. This was in 1976. The society included in its membership: Phoniatricians, Logopedists, Physiotherapists, and Clinical Psychometrists. The first President was Professor Ali El Mofty, Chairperson of ORL Dept. and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University at that time. The society was affiliated to the International Association of Logopedists and Phoniatricians (IALP) in 1977.
 
Goals of the Society:
  • Increasing public awareness of the scope of human communicative disorders and the needs of the communicatively disabled patient.
  • Promotes and develops the educational programs in the field of human communicative sciences and disorders.
  • Promotes the research activities – field, clinical, and experimental domains – in the field of communicative sciences and disorders.
  • Enhances international contact and relations in the field human communicative sciences and disorders professionally, educationally and clinically.
  • Promotes the cause of the communicatively disabled persons regarding work placement.
  • Promotes the spread and development of remedial, curative and preventive clinical services in Egypt and in neighboring countries.
